2009 Gala Event a Great Success
The 2009 Major Hospital Foundation gala took place on March 28 at Indiana Downs. The gala’s theme was “Shall We Dance?” and featured dinner, dancing, a raffle, a silent auction, and live music by featured guest musicians Eric Schneider and Wycliffe Gordon accompanied by the Gust Spenos Quartet. Schneider and Gordon played with the Gust Spenos Quartet on “Swing Theory,” a jazz CD produced to benefit the Foundation in 2007. Vocalist Everett Greene, a huge crowd favorite who performed the vocals on the CD and at the 2007 gala, also performed this year, much to the delight of the crowd.
To add to the star-studded evening, a special dance exhibition was performed by international dance champions Wilson Barerra and Elizabeth Cartier. Barerra and Cartier, proprietor and instructor of dance, at Wilson’s DanceSport in Sarasota, Florida, recently returned from a European tour that included Moscow, Russia; Venice, Italy; and Vilnius, Lithuania. Their poise, artistry, and control were described as remarkable, and many gala attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to see such a unique and spectacular performance.
Dinner included two scrumptious entrees—beef tenderloin served with a shiitake mushroom reduction sauce and Maryland lump crab meat with lemon curd. This was topped off by a warm brownie served with vanilla ice cream. Yum! Two complementary bottles of wine purchased through Buck Creek Winery graced each table
Raffle prizes included a pair of 14K gold earrings from Patora Fine Jewelers, $500 in cash a week in Rose and Lee McNeely’s time share on Marco Island, and a $1,000 cash prize. Winners were, respectively, Dr. Alfred Soto, Terry Smith, and Michael Ryker.
The Major Hospital Foundation was delighted to host this evening of spectacular world class entertainment, and we hope to see all of our guests next year!
