Results of the fourth annual Major Quality Cares Campaign were released at a Major Health Partners employee recognition event on December 2nd. The news that $70,833.48 was given by employees, volunteers, physicians, and board members of the hospital and foundation boards was greeted by gasps and applause.

According to campaign chair, Michael Vierling, the committee was nervous about the goal they had set, $68,000, in spite of success last year in raising $63,330.96.  “We just didn’t know if people would be afraid to give this year with the economy so bad,” he said, adding, “What we found is that they’re a pretty fearless group, that they believe in the value of healthcare philanthropy, and that they are dedicated to helping our patients not only through their time and talent, but through their personal resources as well.  It’s been a wonderful thing to see.”

Jack Horner, Major Health Partners CEO, praised the Major Health Partners staff, physicians, volunteers, and boards of the hospital and foundation and noted that the campaign effort is symbolic of Major Health Partners’ other accomplishments in 2009.  He stressed the concept of being a team and how working together produces great results.  He said, “I’m very proud of what we’ve done.  We’ve shown that by working together as a team, we can exceed goals that we’ve set for ourselves.  We are also demonstrating to the community that when times get tough, we don’t give up.  We keep on caring for others in a way that goes above and beyond, whether this be through the clinical care we provide, through our time, or through our own personal resources.”

The 2009 Major Quality Cares volunteer committee are Michael Vierling (accounting department, served as campaign chair), Ryan Claxton (administration), Laura Horine (Shelbyville Pediatrics), Connie McGraw (Major OB-GYN), James Neal, (engineering), Christy Neisler (new cardiac care service line), Ruthie Schoentrup (Major Sports Medicine), Linda Skillman (Women’s Center), Adam Snyder (registration), Shelley Snyder (emergency), June Taylor (diabetes education ), and Cindy Weidner (nursing administration).
